I have been fortunate to spend a lot of time in the field, for professional and personal reasons, and have accumulated fieldwork experience in USA, Spain, Puerto Rico, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Thailand, Taiwan, Mexico and Malaysia. I have led ~300 field days of expeditions in remote locations (no wi-fi), and a similar amount in more comfortable field stations in the tropics. I like the detailed planning, the constant problem-solving, and the challenges of making decisions in unpredictable environments.
I keep a network of local contacts, mostly in Latin America. Contacts are important to me, and I try to maintain and expand my network, while contributing to their own projects if possible. If circumstances allow it, I remain open to join field expeditions occasionally, even if unrelated to my own research, particularly if mentoring and training of early-career scientists is involved.
I leverage my background and contacts in several initiatives, not strictly academic. A recent collaboration with a Bolivian non-profit has resulted in the design and implementation of a modest eco-touristic offer in the extraordinary dry habitats of the inter-Andean dry valleys: "Plants and Habitats in the Elbow of the Andes". If that's something you may enjoy, get in touch!
